Do simple things every day to help the children in your life grow and learn.
  • Cuddle and comfort them.
  • Give them the opportunity for active play every day.
  • Talk, sing, drum, dance and read with them - help them develop their love of language, creativity and communication.
  • Share simple, healthy food with them.
  • Tell them about your culture and customs.
  • Introduce them to other children and families and help them learn about the cultures and customs of other people in your region.
  • Keep them safe from accidents and from violence.
  • Love them!

Make use of local programs and services.  You and your family can have fun and learn lots by taking advantage of these resources.  These programs and services are often a great place to meet other parents and make new friends.

Many of the resources listed on this website are affordable, and many are free to the users.  Click here for the Powell River area, and here for the Sunshine Coast area.

Ask questions about your own child's development. Every parent worries some time about how their child is doing.  If you have questions or want information or support, phone or visit one of the many services listed on this site.

Find out about the importance of the early years.  We are learning new and fascinating things about human development all the time! Here are a couple of websites that might be a good place to find information to expand your own understanding:
  • Human Early Learning Partnership - HELP's website is an excellent resource for recent data on how children are doing around the province and research about the early years, especially early brain development.
  • Invest in Kids has information about children's developmental stages and about parenting as well as ideas for activities with children. There are also resources for professionals working with young children.
